Dr. Rafael Sánchez-Salas

A brief history of current practice and specialization

After obtaining his medical degree from the University of the Andes in Venezuela, Dr. Sánchez-Salas completed his specialization in urology at the University Clinical Hospital of the Central University of Venezuela in 2005.

He then joined the Department of Urology at L'Institut Mutualiste Montsouris in Paris, France, as a teacher from 2008 to 2021. During her time in Paris, she worked extensively in robotic surgery and in the development of techniques of partial ablation of the prostate gland for the treatment of prostate cancer. He was responsible for organizing the specialization program at L'Institut Mutualiste Montsouris and actively participated in the mentoring and training of numerous young urologists.

Recently, Dr. Sánchez-Salas has joined the McGill University Division of Urology with the aim of further developing research in localized prostate cancer and minimally invasive surgery. He has built a solid international career as a leading Surgical proctor and oncology researcher.

Academic Activities and Relevance to Organizations

Dr. Sánchez-Salas is part of the steering committees of the Société Internationale d'Urologie (SIU) and American Confederation of Urology (CAU). Is Founding member of the Focal Therapy Society.

Furthermore, he is a member of Editorial Board from magazines “European Urology Focus”, “The Journal of Endourology Part B, Videourology” y “Spanish Journal of Urology”and acts as accountant in various scientific journals of urology and oncology. He has published more than 200 indexed scientific articles.
