A member of the ICUA team since 2007, Dr. Luis Llanes has extensive experience in the treatment of kidney stones and urological oncology. He is currently the Head of the Lithiasis and Endourology team at our unit. He is also Head of Department at Getafe Hospital and President of the Madrid Urological Society.

A brief history of the practice
El Dr. Llanes studied Medicine at the Autonomous University of MadridHe attained the degree of Doctor of Medicine and Surgery (outstanding) cum laude) at the Complutense University of Madrid (2000). He specialized in Urology at the Getafe University Hospitaland completed a stay in the Medipol Clinic in Perpignan (Gràcia) with Prof. N. Roques. In 2011, he completed a Master's degree in Medical Management and Healthcare Administration from the UNED.
His medical practice has combined public and private care. He has worked as a urologist in the Hospitals University students from Getafe, Móstoles and Fuenlabrada between 2000 and 2011. From 2011 to 2018 He was Head of the Urology Department at the University Hospital of Torrejónand in 2018 won the Head of the Urology Department at the University Hospital of GetafeSince 2007 he has worked at ICUA, taking responsibility for the treatment of urinary lithiasis and endourological procedures.
Current specialization
Dr. Llanes is a urologist especially dedicated to two facets of Urology: urinary stonesand all the therapeutic procedures that require (percutaneous nephrolithotomy, rigid and flexible ureterorenoscopy, laser surgery) and urologic oncology, specializing in the medical and surgical treatment of kidney, prostate, and bladder cancer. He is a certified console surgeon for the Intuitive Surgical Da Vinci robotic surgical system and has authored several book chapters on endourologic surgical techniques.
Academic activities and membership in organizations
Dr. Llanes is a tenured lecturer (ANECA) and an associate professor of Urology at the Universidad Francisco de Vitoria since 2015. In addition, since 2018 he has been a professor of Endourology at Jesus Minimally Invasive Surgery Center Usón (Cáceres). It is a member of the European Association of Urology, Spanish Association of Urology and president of the Madrid Urological Society.
Scientific activity
Dr. Llanes is the author or co-author of over 200 scientific publications and communications in the field of Urology. He is notable for having led or collaborated on 14 competitively funded research projects, and is currently focused on prostate cancer screening as a member of the European Randomized Study of Screening forum Prostate Cancer and on the role of the microbiome in the development and modulation of the response to urological cancers and urinary tract infections with a multicenter research group.
