A brief history of the practice
Specialist in functional lower urinary tract disorders: urinary incontinence, neurourinary disorders, pelvic organ prolapse, and urological reconstruction. He currently practices at the University Hospital of Getafe (functional urology) and at ICUA Madrid (CEMTRO Clinic), where he performs HoLEP after training in the technique with Dr. Fernando Gómez Sancha. He previously trained in advanced laparoscopic surgery at the Saint Augustine Clinic in Bordeaux with Dr. Richard Gaston. He coordinated the Functional Urology and Renal Transplant Unit at La Paz Hospital (2018–2024) as a preliminary step. He is the principal investigator in an international clinical trial on nocturia and a co-investigator in the European SATURN registry on male urinary incontinence.
Current specialization
Dr. Gómez de Vicente specializes in the management of functional disorders of the lower urinary tract, which includes all bladder dysfunctions of neurological or idiopathic origin, pelvic organ support defects, urinary fistulas, and pelvic pain. This encompasses incontinence surgery for both men and women, vaginal or abdominal repair of pelvic organ prolapse, cystectomy, urinary diversion, ureteral reimplantation, and other procedures.
He collaborates as a lecturer in Urology at the Complutense University of Madrid in undergraduate education and as a professor of Master's degree in multidisciplinary approach to Prostate Cancer.
Academic activities and membership in organizations
A member of the International Continence Society (ICS), the Ibero-American Society of Neurourology (SINUG), the Spanish Association of Urology (AEU), and the European Association of Urology (EAU), he teaches laparoscopic colposacropexy at the Jesús Usón Minimally Invasive Surgery Center in Cáceres. He contributed to the creation of the MIR (Medical Residency) and PROMIR (Preparatory Medical Residency) manuals published by Editorial Médica Panamericana. He has taught in the Master's Program in Pelvic Floor Surgery directed by Dr. Moreno and is currently a professor in the Expert Master's Program in the Management of the Female Urinary Tract at Alfonso X el Sabio University.
Scientific activity
Author or co-author of more than 50 scientific articles. Co-investigator of the European registry for male stress urinary incontinence surgery (SATURN). Principal investigator in an international clinical trial on nocturia.
