Dr. J. Pablo Pedraza Sánchez

He is primarily an expert in andrology and uro-oncology, particularly in the diagnosis and treatment of prostate and kidney cancer. His extensive experience and expertise have also made him an expert in the treatment of kidney stones and benign prostatic hyperplasia.

He completed his MIR residency training to obtain the specialty of Urology at the Virgen del Rocío University Hospital in Sevillebetween 2015 and 2020. During that period, he completed his training with an external rotation at the University College London Hospitals, of the UK National Health Service, to delve deeper into the field of Andrology and Uro-Oncology.

After obtaining the specialist title in May 2020, with a POSITIVE OUTSTANDING rating, he began working as a specialist in the University Hospitals of Jerez and Punta de EuropaAfter nearly three years working at both hospitals, the doctor and his team successfully established a new joint management model to improve healthcare for the population of both health districts. It was at this point that he assumed the position of Head of the Urology Section, a role he currently holds concurrently with his professional work at ICUA Andalucía.

Current specialization

Currently, the doctor specializes in andrology (medical and surgical treatment of erectile dysfunction, penile curvature, etc.) and uro-oncology, where he treats and diagnoses prostate cancer (fusion biopsy, laparoscopic radical prostatectomy, hormonal treatment with new antiandrogens, etc.) and kidney cancer (laparoscopic nephrectomy, treatment of advanced kidney cancer with immunotherapy, etc.). He also treats urinary stones (ureteroscopies, retrograde intrarenal surgery, laser lithotripsy, etc.) and benign prostatic hyperplasia.

Diseases it treats

Benign Prostate Hyperplasia

Growth of a benign tumor in the prostate gland as a result of aging. It produces urinary symptoms such as difficulty starting urination, weak stream, frequency, urgency, needing to get up to urinate at night, or incontinence.

Prostate Cancer

It is the most common cancer in men, and it is curable if detected early. It is important to see a urologist annually starting at age 50 for early detection, and at age 40 if there is a family history.

Bladder Cancer

Very common in patients who smoke or who smoked in their youth, it usually presents with blood in the urine and irritative urinary symptoms. 80% of cases are curable.

Kidney Stones

The crystallization of waste products in urine can produce kidney stones. These stones can vary in composition and their elimination may occur naturally or require surgical treatment.

Phimosis

Narrowing of the foreskin that prevents the glans from being exposed. This can compromise hygiene and cause discomfort during sexual intercourse. It is common in children but sometimes bothers older men as well.

Flowmetry

This test measures the amount of urine the patient's bladder is able to urinate per second, the duration of urination, and any possible interruptions during urination.

Laparoscopic surgery

Laparoscopy is a type of minimally invasive surgery in which the patient is operated on through small incisions made in the abdominal cavity.

Prostate mapping

Fusion biopsy projects the prostate MRI images onto those obtained in real time in the operating room with ultrasound and allows the biopsy to be directed with great precision to the areas of suspicion of cancer.

It allows visualization of the body's interior without the use of radiation, thanks to the use of ultrasound. It can be used to view the kidneys, adrenal glands, parts of the ureters, bladder, prostate, testicles, urethra, and penis.

4K Cystoscopy

It is a diagnostic procedure that allows visualization of the urethra and bladder using a high-resolution cystoscope (a thin tube connected to a camera). It allows the urologist to identify suspicious lesions.

Image fusion prostate biopsy

It is a technique that combines 3-tesla magnetic resonance imaging with ultrasound. This fusion increases the biopsy yield, improving and refining tumor diagnosis.

Varicocelectomy

This procedure involves ligating testicular varicosities, or varicoceles, through a small incision in the groin. It is usually performed in cases where the patient experiences testicular pain or decreased fertility.

Hydrocelectomy

Surgical intervention that resolves the excessive accumulation of fluid around the testicle (hydrocele).

Condyloma removal surgery

Genital warts can be removed with an electric scalpel using local anesthesia, by using liquid nitrogen, which destroys them by freezing (cryotherapy), or by using laser light.

Ureteral catheter or stent

It is a tubular catheter, which is inserted into the ureter, connecting the bladder and kidney, to allow urine to flow down to the bladder.

Ureteral stone surgery

Today, painful kidney stones can be treated with a simple procedure. A very thin instrument is inserted through the urethra, allowing the stones to be pulverized with a laser.

Retrograde intrarenal surgery (RIRS)

A minimally invasive endoscopic procedure that allows a very narrow and flexible instrument, which carries a camera, to be inserted through the urethra and up to the kidney, allowing kidney stones to be pulverized and extracted.
