A urologist specializing in urological oncology and robotic surgery at the Virgen del Rocío University Hospital, where he has worked as a specialist physician since 2009. He is part of the Uro-oncology and Robotic Surgery Unit, a pioneer in Andalusia in robotic surgery and MRI-guided fusion prostate biopsy, offering a minimally invasive and highly precise approach to oncological pathologies of the prostate, kidney, and bladder. He combines his clinical work with intensive research as a member of the IBIS Research Group in advanced surgery and therapies for urological pathologies.
Current specialization
He serves as head of the Uro-oncology and Robotic Surgery team within the Urology and Nephrology Clinical Management Unit at Virgen del Rocío University Hospital. He treats prostate, kidney, and bladder cancer using a minimally invasive and highly precise approach. He also performs endoscopic surgery for the treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia—including laser enucleation of the prostate—and bladder tumors, as well as percutaneous and endoscopic surgery for urinary stones. He is also a member of the hospital's kidney transplant team.
Academic activities and membership in organizations
A graduate in Medicine and Surgery from the University of Seville (2003), he completed his residency in Urology at the Virgen del Rocío University Hospital. He furthered his training with a Master's degree in Clinical Trials from the University of Seville (2014) and obtained his Doctorate in Medicine and Surgery in May 2025 with the dissertation "Low-Dose-Rate Brachytherapy as a Treatment for Prostate Cancer: A Study of the Bounce Phenomenon," which received the highest distinction, summa cum laude, unanimously. He has served as a clinical tutor for undergraduate medical students since 2011, a tutor for Urology residents (2015–2020), and Professor-Coordinator of the Urology Imaging Diagnostics Course at the IAVANTE Advanced Clinical Simulation Center (Granada) during the 2021–2022 academic year.
Scientific activity
A member since 2011 of the IBIS Research Group “Advanced Surgery in Urology. Therapies in Urological Pathology” (IBIS Code CS-02), he has been Principal Investigator in three international multicenter clinical trials on prostate cancer and a collaborator in numerous clinical studies on prostate, bladder, and kidney cancer. His research has focused particularly on the treatment of prostate cancer using low-dose-rate brachytherapy, contributing with his findings to a better understanding of the bounce phenomenon and its clinical impact.
