Unfortunately, prostate MRI does not detect all prostate tumors, only about 80%. The use of the ExactVu micro-ultrasound system, a high-resolution ultrasound 300 times greater than conventional ultrasound, allows visualization of tumors that MRI cannot detect. Combining these two technologies in the same procedure improves the identification of suspicious lesions and increases diagnostic accuracy, thus enabling the specialist to make the most appropriate treatment decision for the patient.
The effectiveness of this diagnostic technique has been proven by our team, which has achieved worldwide recognition by creating the “Madrid Protocol”This protocol is based on our unit's own experience and was published in the Journal of Urology, the scientific journal of the American Urological Association.
With the development of this protocol, our team has become the first in the world to analyze micro-ultrasound-guided biopsy (Micro-US) and mpMRI fusion biopsy in the same procedure. The research has evaluated the accuracy of these methods in detecting the prostate cancer and found that adding microultrasound to fusion biopsy increased the diagnosis of clinically significant tumors.
