Recently, the results of a study published in the journal Nature Communications show how a diagnostic test using urine could differentiate between patients with aggressive tumors and those with less dangerous tumor growth.
The test identifies 624 proteins, including protein biomarkers capable of predicting prostate cancer. The research was conducted jointly by the Ontario Institute for Cancer Research in Canada, the Virginia School of Medicine in the United States, and the University of Toronto Health Network, also in Canada. According to spokespeople, its accuracy rate is as high as that of existing, more invasive tests. With the introduction of this new test, patients could undergo screenings more frequently, allowing for more comprehensive monitoring of the disease, the researchers explain.
